We are thrilled to present an exclusive interview with Florencio Rodriguez, CEO and founder of Don Julio Group, who was recently honored as one of iHeartMedia’s Most Influential Latinos of 2024. In this inspiring conversation with renowned host Héctor Marcano, Florencio opens up about his journey, values, and the lasting legacy of his late father.
The Story Behind “Don Julio”
Born in Guanajuato, Mexico, Florencio shared the heartfelt inspiration behind the name Don Julio. While he could have named the restaurant after himself, he chose to honor his father, who had a deep love for Don Julio tequila.
“When my father passed away in 2014, I was planning to open my first restaurant in Florida, but I couldn’t find the right name. I decided to name it Don Julio in his memory.”

A Legacy of Hard Work and Humility
From his early years in Guanajuato to working in South Carolina before settling in Florida, Florencio emphasized that humility and hard work have been the foundation of his success.
“No matter how far I’ve come, I haven’t changed. I’m still humble and committed to helping others, just as my father taught me.”
His leadership philosophy is simple: lead by example. Whether it’s cleaning tables, cooking, or scrubbing floors, Florencio works alongside his team, ensuring that his employees see him as a mentor rather than just a boss.
“I don’t want my employees to see me as a boss, but as a leader they can learn from.”
Bringing Mexican Culture to the U.S.
Florencio also reflected on the growing impact of Mexican culture in the U.S., from the popularity of Taco Tuesday to the nationwide celebration of Cinco de Mayo. He takes pride in how his restaurants create an authentic connection to Mexico through live mariachi music, traditional flavors, and a welcoming atmosphere.
Looking Ahead: Expanding the Don Julio Legacy
With plans to open three more restaurants by the end of the year, Florencio remains dedicated to mentoring aspiring entrepreneurs and sharing his experiences to help others succeed.
“I tell them what I’ve learned so they don’t fail. I want everyone to prosper.”
A Recognition Rooted in Family Values
When asked about being named one of Florida’s most influential Latinos, Florencio expressed profound gratitude, attributing the honor to his late father.
“It’s an honor, and I owe it to my father. He taught me everything—humility, hard work, and to never stop helping others.”
